Privacy Policy

WowOwl ("WowOwl", "we", "us", "our") operates the website-scanning service available at wowowl.in (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

WowOwl is operated by Aniket Khaire, an individual based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account information (signed-in users)

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store:

• Your name, email address, and profile picture, as provided by Google
• A unique Google account identifier
• Your subscription plan (Free / Pro) and, if applicable, billing identifiers from our payment processor (see Section 4)
• Your country, resolved once at sign-in from your IP address (best-effort; not always accurate)

1.2 Scan data

To provide the core Service, we process:

• The URL(s) and keyword(s) you submit for scanning
• The pages our crawler visits on your behalf, and the results (match counts, snippets, page titles) we generate from them
• Scan configuration you choose (page limits, search options, schedules)

If you are signed in, your scan history is stored against your account so you can revisit past results ("Perpetual scan history" on paid/free-signed-in plans). If you are not signed in, your recent scans may be stored locally in your browser instead.

1.3 Usage and log data

For every scan request — signed in or not — we record technical details needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service: your IP address, an approximate location derived from it, timestamps, the outcome of the scan (pages scanned, errors, whether it was rate-limited or blocked), and which features of the Service were used.

1.4 Payment information

Payments are processed by our payment processor, Dodo Payments. We do not receive or store your full card number or other sensitive payment credentials — Dodo Payments handles that directly. We do receive and store: your billing country (used for regional pricing), a customer and subscription identifier assigned by Dodo Payments, subscription/payment status, and the amount and currency of each transaction, so we can maintain your access and provide billing history.

1.5 Communications

If you contact us (via our contact form or by email), we receive the content of your message and the email address you provide, so we can respond. If you request scan results by email, we process the recipient email address you provide for that single purpose.

1.6 Cookies and similar technology

We use one cookie that is strictly necessary for the Service to function: an authentication cookie that keeps you signed in. This cookie does not track you across other websites and is not used for advertising. We do not currently use third-party advertising or analytics cookies. Some preferences (such as light/dark mode or which visual theme you're shown) are stored locally in your browser (localStorage), not as cookies, and never leave your device.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

• Operate the scanning Service and return results to you
• Maintain your account, subscription, and scan history
• Enforce usage limits fairly (e.g., daily scan quotas per plan) and prevent abuse of the Service
• Process payments and manage subscriptions/credit purchases
• Send transactional communications (scan results you requested, billing receipts, scheduled-scan notifications, replies to your enquiries)
• Diagnose problems, maintain security, and improve the Service
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (EEA/UK visitors)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the UK, we process your information on the following bases: performance of a contract (providing the Service you've signed up for or paid for), our legitimate interests (operating, securing, and improving the Service, and preventing abuse), and, where applicable, your consent (e.g., if you opt in to a communication).

4. Who We Share Information With

We share information only with service providers who help us operate WowOwl, and only to the extent needed for them to perform their function:

We do not sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy).

5. Data Retention

We retain account information and scan history for as long as your account remains active, so that features like scan history and scheduled scans keep working. Guest (non-signed-in) usage and log data is retained for a limited period sufficient for security, abuse-prevention, and product analytics purposes. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 7).

6. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), authentication cookies marked HttpOnly, and access controls on our administrative systems. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information; object to or restrict certain processing; and request a portable copy of your data.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. International Data Transfers

WowOwl is operated from India, and our infrastructure providers may process data in other countries (including the United States, via AWS and other providers). By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data protection laws.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you (e.g., by email or a notice on the Service). Continued use of the Service after a change becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
